Ahmet Özhan was born in Urfa, Turkey in 1950. Because of his civil servant father’s postings in various cities during his primary and secondary education, he had his first music lessons from his family. He completed his musical education at the Istanbul Municipal Conservatory and the Üsküdar Music Society under the tutelage of Emin Ongan—a recognized and highly-valued master. Until 1991 he continued his musical life making various records and stage works with Istanbul Radio. In 1991, Mr. Özhan was appointed General Director of the Istanbul Historical Turkish Music Ensemble. He has been a „State Artist“ since 1998. His work can be heard in the documentary films: „Haci Arif Bey, „Alis“, and „Hafiz Yusuf Efendi“. He represented Turkey at the Asian Music Festival in Singapore, China. He has contributed to the musical lives of art lovers by his commemorations of the Turkish medieval philosopher Mevlana(since 1980), the Istanbul Festival(since 1984), and by his performances of classical and mystical concerts, Güldeste, both in his homeland, and as far away as Tokyo and San Francisco. For four years he presented and was soloist for a music program „?ark›lar Seni Söyler“ on a privately-owned television channel. He has received many awards both for his work as performer, and as television programmer. Mr. Özhan has made recordings of mystical music, including a 5 CD set called „Ates-i Ask“, one of which includes the works of the Ottoman sultans; „Padishah Compositors“, and one mystic disc; „‹lahiyat-i Kenan“. These recordings were made both as soloist and general director of his ensemble. In 2002 he released „Rüya“(Dream), a recording of Turkish classical music. He continues to create programs with his ensemble for TRT, Istanbul Television. With his ensemble, as soloist he has presented programs such as „Lyrical History“ and „Tolerance Empire“. He is thankful for the opportunity he has to further the understanding and appreciation of Turkish classical and mystic music as General Director of the Istanbul Turkish Music Ensemble.
