Berlin Sling: Urban Pop-Psychedelic Soul from Berlin! Not a band but a “constellation” of musicians, Berlin Sling brings together the big guitar sounds of the 70s and the pop sensibilities of the 60s to form a unique stage show that takes the audience on a dance trip into the future. Marya April leads the band with her wow-factor voice that conjures up Janis Joplin and Patti Labelle! Dancing her tiny frame around the stage, and introducing songs with her quirky sense of humor she easily endears the audience. Co-writer Nino Ruggieri brings out the psychedelic edge of the music with Zappa-worthy guitar solos that catapult you in another space-time-continuum, you may guess Woodstock is tomorrow. Backing the guitar & vocal power duo are bassist Hugo Saldias and drummer Simon Wupper. With Saldias’ steady groove and Wupper keeping the beat with modern rock drive Berlin Sling traverses styles from funk, rock, and pop, to Bossa Nova and punk. As though pre-destined, the foursome met at a recording session and everything fell into place. The stars aligned and now they have no lower target then to conquer the world!

Einflüsse kommen von überall: vom Musikhören, vom spazieren Gehen, im Dialog mit vielen Menschen und Freunden, vom Lesen, Schlafen, Filme Sehen. Wichtig ist die Augen und Ohren, vor allem aber sein Herz offen zu halten. Nur mit einer grundsätzlichen Empathie kann man sich nähern, der Musik, Kunst, Fremden/m, der Natur.... Berlin Sling ist der Versuch zu entdecken, zu verbinden, sich zu finden und zu experimentieren. Wir laden die Zuhörer ein, mit uns zu suchen: Neue Tanzschritte, neue Tanzpartner, einen Moment der Stille und dann wieder die Ungewissheit, vorfreudig erwartend. Für Marya April, die Sängerin, die die Texte schreibt, ist es wichtig, das nicht nur heiße Luft, sondern Attitüde und eine Haltung zum Ausdruck gebracht wird. Es ist in unserer Band eine chronische Ermüdung, aktueller Chartspopmusik gegenüber eingetreten. Wir glauben, auch im Hinblick auf Musikgeschichte, das diese regelmäßigen Phasen der Gefälligkeit wieder von Phasen des Aufbruchs und Umsturzes abgelöst werden. Wir sehen uns als Teil dieser Bewegung. Wir suchen andere Teile und wollen uns vernetzen. Wer sich angesprochen fühlt ist hiermit eingeladen uns anzuschreiben.

After many starts and changes we are now a powertrio. The amazing Koko Fitzgeraldo as frontwomen, leadsinger and bassplayer. The stringwizard Nino Ruggieri and our transylvanian animal Cosmo Cadar on drums. We are releasing our first album very soon, but: as usual we are about to rerecord some songs that have drastically changed since the bandmembers changed again. That's life, soem become fathers, some go to Iindia, some study in another city. Our band is in a permanent flow, which is definetly good so far because that way it never becomes boring.....Now the sound changes as well, Koko on base plays very melodic and funky lines whereas Cosmo who before played as well in hard rock bands has a avery straight and heavy rock beat. The melody lines from the vocals stay very melodic too and in combination with the partially moony partially furious guitar playing of Nino Ruggieri this makes Berlin Sling a music power plant. Berlin Sling is influenced by many great musicians, such as Zappa, Hendrix, Led Zep, Sly And The Family Stone,Joplin, Cocker, Fitzgerals, Beach Boys, 13th floor Elevator, Black Keys, Badu........ but as well any kind of literature, art or city that is inspiering, real and inspiring. We love life, we love music.
