Coffin On Tyres

Summer 2008. An ad could be found at the edge of the wide wide web… It read something like this : “Fab, guitarist, is looking for aficionados to riff with him in a hot sand desert atmosphere”. A second guitarist quickly replied : “Hi, I’m Bapt, I’m the one you’re looking for”.

After hearing each other’s compositions, the two guitarists are on the same wavelength, on the musical as on the personal level. But they still have to make the line-up complete. By word of mouth, Matz, his roaring bass and his style integrate the project. Almost eight months later, after several attempts and a good few encounters, the trio finally finds his drummer. Sylvain immediately gets into the movement, breathing the right feeling and rhythm into the band. The rehearsals follow one another and promptly confirm the solidity and the synergy of the instrumental line-up. THE voice remains to be found.

End of 2008. With a couple of sharp titles, the four stooges proceed with their research, to finally meet Geoff. Fab starts Green Machine’s intro riff. Sylvain drums hard, Matz’s bass and Bapt’s guitar strengthen the thick and heavy sound pouring into the room. Then Geoff grabs the mike and joins in with his specific rage and range.

All five of them look at each other. Geoff obviously brings the presence and strength long awaited, thus finalizing the creation of the band. It is sometimes striking how some paths mingle into an asphalt track, unwinding on remote landscapes, peaceful or wild.

At least this is how these guys feel about their project and become Coffin on Tyres. They unite their backgrounds to make their way through the sand, with the will to go far in their brand new "Coffin on Tyres".

August 2009. Three months after the arrival of it’s singer, the band is in full creative bloom. The guys record eight titles that will become their self-produced debut album. Red comes into being in March 2010.

This album brings us at the precise moment where darkness replaces daylight, when the horizon becomes red and our perception of the things surrounding us is altered. The sand beneath the rocky road that Coffin on Tyres takes becomes red also. The red of passion, love and lust, but also the red of blood, violence and danger.

This is where Red is taking us.

Eté 2008. On pouvait lire une petite annonce au fin fond du vaste web... Ça donnait quelque chose comme : "Fab, guitariste, cherche aficionados pour envoyer de gros riffs fleurant bon le sable chaud". Un deuxième guitariste répondit rapidement : "Salut moi c'est Bapt, je suis celui que tu cherches".

Après écoute de leurs compositions respectives, les deux guitaristes sont en phase, musicalement et humainement. Il faut maintenant compléter la formation. Le bouche à oreille fait son office et Matz, faisant vrombir la quatre cordes comme il se doit, intègre le projet en y apportant sa patte. Presque huit mois plus tard, après plusieurs tentatives et quelques rencontres, le trio trouve finalement son batteur. D'entrée de jeu, Sylvain transpire derrière ses cymbales et insuffle enfin le feeling et l'assise rythmique que le groupe recherche. Les répétitions se succèdent alors et confirment assez rapidement que la formation instrumentale est solide et complémentaire. Il ne reste plus qu'à trouver LA voix.

Fin 2008. Avec quelques titres bien affûtés, les quatre compères relancent les recherches et finissent, un peu plus tard, par rencontrer Geoff. Fab envoie le riff d'intro de Green Machine. Sylvain frappe fort, la basse de Matz et la gratte de Bapt viennent renforcer le son dense et épais qui se diffuse dans la pièce. Puis Geoff empoigne le micro et fait vibrer ses cordes vocales sur le premier couplet du morceau, avec la rage et le grain de voix qui le caractérisent.

Cinq paires d'yeux se fixent mutuellement. Geoff apporte, avec évidence, la présence et la puissance tant attendues et permet de finaliser la formation du groupe. Il est parfois étonnant de voir comment certains chemins se croisent, se trouvent et se matérialisent en une piste de bitume qui se déroule sur des paysages reculés, paisibles ou sauvages.

C'est en tout cas de cette façon que ces gars-là ressentent ce nouveau projet et deviennent Coffin On Tyres. Après avoir bourlingué à droite et à gauche, ces cinq musiciens ont l'envie commune de tracer une route sur le sable, avec la détermination de faire un bout de chemin dans ce "Coffin On Tyres" flambant neuf.

Août 2009. Trois mois après avoir intégré son chanteur, le groupe est sur une dynamique de création. Il décide d'enregistrer les huit titres qui deviendront son premier album autoproduit. "Red" voit le jour en mars 2010.

Leur album nous emmène à l'instant précis où la lumière du jour laisse place à la nuit noire, lorsque l'horizon rougit un cours instant et que la perception de ce qui nous entoure se trouve modifiée. Le sable bordant la route rocailleuse que décide d'emprunter Coffin On Tyres devient rouge lui aussi, rouge de passion, d’amour, de luxure, mais aussi rouge de sang, de violence et de danger.

Voilà où nous emmène "Red".
