The John Carter Super Bowl commercial was a great introduction to those who may not have heard of the film, but for those of you who had seen previous trailers, you were probably hoping for a little more. A new spot ran last night during the premiere of The River, and it’s loaded with action, highlighted by John Carter fighting a giant monster, among other martians.

Comingsoon.net has posted a brand new featurette for the upcoming Disney epic John Carter, taking us through all the film’s principal characters. If you haven’t seen any of the trailers before, the film tells the story of a man who mysteriously wakes up on Mars and is thrust in the middle of the planet’s civil war. And that green, tusked martian in the photo above? That’s Tars Tarkas, voiced by none other than Willem Dafoe.
