Bio
................................................................................................................... ................................................................................................................... August 2006 saw the release of 'live a ponte sisto' recorded on an historical pedestrian bridge in the centre of Rome(produced by Costanza Cruillas and distributed by GoodFellas) and in february 2009 the track 'Charangas' was selected for the compilation 'Funk in Italy' promoting the major exponents of the Italian funk scene. The band have performed in a wide range of clubs and festivals From Cairo, Shanghai and Barcelona, to the Bern busker festival, Cafè Zapata(Berlin) and Southampton's soul cellar. One of the keys to the group's sucess is their unique, dynamic and inspiring sound coupled with the capacity to appear in a variety of situations; improvised street party sessions, live radio shows, luxury hotels, busker festivals, dance clubs and cultural centres. .................................................................................................................... Having already achieved cult status in the capital…as far as one can imagine from the stereotypical Italian approach to funk…References that stretch from the JB’s to mongo santamaria, the boogaloo of Willie Bobo to the afro-beat of Antiballas…you can be sure to expect passion and fireworks when funk meets the streets – Blow up, February ‘07 .................................................................................................................... We will be reserving a place for the next concert - Rumore, February ‘07 .................................................................................................................... The Kings of Roman Funk -Zot Productions .................................................................................................................... The Dap Kings, Italy's smoking Funkallisto, The Breakestra, and a handful of others are purveying the classic funk sound at a venue near you even as we speak. -Stylus Magazine 2006 .................................................................................................................... The talented Roman band deliver hot and solid funk drawing inspiration from the Afro-American musical culture of the early 70s. A sizzling and irresistible live act. -Roma Style, December 2005 .................................................................................................................... A formation dedicated to funk at its fullest and most absorbing. The final result is an unstoppable sequence of celebrated gems and classics for the connaisseur, music that moves you for the effort put into the technical preparation and carefully thought-out arrangements. Funkallisto are stirring memories and dance floors for a leap into the golden era of funk. -Dj slump , April 2005 .................................................................................................................... Exploiting the streets and walk-ways of the city, a bridge crossing or the galleries of a station. A challenge that could soon become something of a passion. -Post It, April 2006 .................................................................................................................... An explosive melting pot of sound from one of the best on the Italian funk scene. -Metro,Thurs 15th June 2006 ...................................................................................................................... Numerous performances in notable clubs and venues, nevertheless Funkallisto prefer the live and direct approach of playing on the street, spreading their version of an alternative underground sub-culture. -QUI, October 2006 ...................................................................................................................... A meaty mix of latin-jazz, funk, soul and not only. Perennially and arduously active, playing all the time, in all places. Clearly exposing their lack of pomposity and their will to express their music under any circumstances. Rome gives thanks… -www.movimentiprog.net, November 2005 .. -
