impérial quartet
Based on a supple, generous, solid and on-alert upright bass/electric bass and drum rhythm, the band leans on the singularity of the undeniable coexistence that has united the saxophone players for over 10 years.

Between the two of them, they share familie of saxophones from sopranino to bass, developing an original and unexpected sound pallate.

This uncommon variety of pitches allows the exploration of new musical territory through the compositions proposed by the ensemble.

The search for organic material, also inspired by traditional music, trance music and that somewhat "dirty" rock energy, serve as a rhythmic pool to their aerial melodies and other theatrics.

The improvisational aspect has a fundamental place in this quartet's music. When it comes from the compositions as well as in itself.

Imperial Quartet is a formation that is simple in its constitution (a quartet without polyphonic instruments), rich in its possible orchestral combinations, essential in its wish to communicate, be it in the exchange between musicians or in sharing with the audience. 2

Imperial Quartet is the gathering of improvisational musicians that have been accomplices for many years. The project came to light in the beginning of 2010.

First album -Impérial Quartet- Instant Music Records (Musea Records)

After a year spent working and experimenting with concert music, Imperial Quartet decided to record a first album as a witness to this adventure. It then became evident that it would be a live recording,

The band decided to embark on this production in the manner of a chamber orchestra. In an effort to capture the fragility of a live show, a series of four concerts played exclusively acoustically was recorded. This record was co-produced by the AGAPES association, a member of the Jazz Stages Federation of Lyon. It will be released under the Instant Music Records label (distributed by Musea Records) following a concert at the Dynamo de Banlieues Bleues in Pantin (Paris), on December 9th 2011.

Second Album -Slim Fat- Naïve Record

Thanks to the trophy « Jazz à Vienne/Rezzo Focal », the Imperial Quartet has recorded its second album in January 2013 at the Flon Studio in Lausanne (Switzerland). The album release is planned for June 2013. Sustained by a common dynamic and demand, this project is a response to the need of questioning different approaches, of exploring various recording devices and techniques. Field recording, working in stereo couples, different placement in the space, respecting and mixing sounds, managing dynamic soundscapes, movement and depth... as well as the axes on which the musical performance and the sonic direction are joined.
