Bring together 6 of Newcastle’s finest musicians. Give them instruments, a stage and a list of great songs and you have The Jolyon Briggs Band, an energetic pop/funk hybrid with tight grooves, snappy horn lines, ripping solos and catchy tunes.
After playing together for 4 years in one form or another, front man and songwriter Jolyon Briggs assembled his own original project.
Jolyon
Music is in Jolyon’s genes; He draws great inspiration from some of the best ‘Piano Men’ of modern times, Billy Joel, Harry Connick Jr, Paul McCartney, John Lennon and Stevie Wonder, and others. His style remains uniquely ‘Jolyon’: a gifted tunesmith who writes strong, punchy lyrics that touch on a range of political, social and personal issues. His hooks, melodies and catch cries get you singing along and his passionate delivery draws you in and takes you for an exciting and provocative ride.
Barney
His brother Barnaby Briggs (Bass Guitar/backing vocals) has a wealth of experience having performed with Afro Moses, Russell Morris, Brian Cadd, Turnaround, Andy Firth Big Band, Paul Mcnamara, and Lachlan Evans Quartet to name a few.
Joel
Joel Black (Guitar/backing vox) currently works in A&R for Tommirock records in Newcastle. His warm tones, solid rhythms and flashy yet tasteful solos slide in perfectly with the Briggs’ sound.
Adam
Adam Johnson (Drums) has played with Jolyon, Barney and Joel for 3–4 years in one form or another: Jazz, funk grooves, rock he nails it all. A rhythm section any band would be jealous of.
Ben & Jason
Ben Tracey (Trumpet) having trained as a classical musician at Newcastle conservatorium, Ben’s Jazz and funk demons led him to the Briggs’ brothers. Along with Jason Mitchell (Saxophone) this is a horn section to rival any you’ve heard.

The debut EP Short of the Line… is on sale at their live shows with a new EP in the workings (being saved up for).
The Jolyon Briggs Band has been receiving rave reviews for their live show and is looking to take their music to wider audience in 2008. The guys promise to leave no stage un-funked.
