  • Bio

Born in Netanya Israel, Kelly Samia moved to Australia when she was just a few months old. Taking singing lessons from the age of six, she first broke out in song publicly as a soloist with the Australian Girls Choir at the age of ten. After recovering from this she soon plunged into the 'Talent Quest' circuit picking up a number of awards along the way. ********************************************************************************** Whilst performing at an annual Victorian Big Band Competition/ Festival at the age of 15, Kelly was talent spotted and asked to sing with the Monash University Big Band. Following her passion for Jazz, Kelly spent a number of years performing at concerts, corporate functions, competitions and festivals. Including two memorable week-long tours visiting country towns in Australia. ********************************************************************************** In February 1997 Kelly joined the musical production 'Joining the Chorus' and was selected to sing as a soloist in two works. Following intensive rehearsals and training the final performance was at Rod Laver Arena in front of an audience of over 10,000. ********************************************************************************** Just weeks before her 17th birthday, Kelly participated in an inspiring event that required her to sing two solo tracks on a collaborative, fundamentally jazz/ chamber influenced CD. 'Under the Influence' (CD title), was arranged and performed by the superlative talents of Graham Lyall, and also performed by jazz greats such as Tony Gould, Ben Robertson, Tony Floyd and the Piston Baroque Brass Quintet. ********************************************************************************** Kelly performed as a soloist at 'The Stacey Night', a Melbourne Festival annual cornerstone event, with a Big Band consisting of the creme de la creme of Australian musicians. Kelly shared the stage with guest vocalists from musicals Chicago, Fiddler on the Roof and Les Miserables. After an enormous reception, Kelly was called back to perform over the following years. **********************************************************************************Throughout her music career Kelly's versatility and interest in different musical genres has allowed her to work with an array of musicians and bands covering Blues, Jazz, Folk, R&B, Alternative, Electronic and World music. Currently she is writing and recording original music . *************************************************************
