Maria .... .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .......... ...... .......... I was born in Quito – Ecuador. My grandparents were painters (Elvia and Leonardo Tejada), and I felt always supported to practice arts, specially danse and music. I started learning vocal technique with soprano Blanca Hauser from Chile, then continued studying Music in Universidad San Francisco de Quito. At 22 years old I went to France where I lived for 10 years, performing Latin American music and studying in "Conservatoire de Metz" with Thierry Péala’s vocal jazz classes. First album: “Fábula” Cristal Records, 2006. (original compositions by Donald Régnier and Maria Tejada). Second album: "Al cantar tus flores" 2008 (Ecuadorian traditional music mixed with jazz and latin folk sounds). Third album coming this autumn: "Una vez" 2009 (duo guitar and voice "Iguazu" presents new compositions). My influences come from Latin American folk music: MPB (Brazilian popular music), Caribbean rhythms, valses and afro-rhythms from Venezuela, Ecuador and Peru … I also LOVE jazz, fado and flamenco.

.."She will remind you of Sarah Vaughn, not because of the quality of Maria’s voice but by the approach to the expression of each piece, and her way of improvising a new compositional structure, superimposed on the tune, such as a fine pianist might employ. There is no overemphasis on the use of “scat” singing, as a signification that Maria is singing “jazz”; but the exercise of her musical taste and understanding of what that expression of music is really about, following in the tradition of Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughn, etc.."
