When first meeting Melodie you are brought face to face with a charismatic, funny, and outgoing girl who always knows how to cheer you up; but what you may not see is the multi-talented self-driven individual who has been building steps to become a successful artiste all her life. Though she is only now seventeen, Melodie has a mature understanding of music, a passion to be a part of it, and the determination to get her there. Since she was a little girl, Melodie always wanted to be a singer, and was always finding herself involved with music. From learning choreography by watching tapes of Janet and Britney; singing songs from the likes of Mariah Carey and Celine Dion; to even being featured on the front page of the ‘Nation Newspaper’ as the “Pan Baby” for putting her own tune to steel drums when she was only two years old – this young woman let others know who she was from a very young age. At seven years old, Melodie picked up the pen and decided it would be best if she wrote her own songs – a way to express her feelings, uniqueness, and premature raw talent. As the years went by, the songs grew in meaning, structure and complexity. At fourteen, she realised that the idols she grew up listening to had stopped making the music she loved. Boy bands like *Nsync and The Backstreet Boys had become extinct and the few artistes that were still making music had completely changed their identity: The era of 90’s Bubblegum Pop was gone and there was no one for children to look up to. How could a whole phenomenal brand of music come spiraling down? She didn’t know, but for the first time she did know exactly what she wanted to do with her musical talent – revive the Pop genre. Even if she isn’t singing this 5’10” Barbadian beauty participates in projects with her music in mind. In order to easily choreograph dance routines to her songs she spent several years studying jazz and modern dance at various dance schools. In 2007, Melodie started modeling to give herself more stage experience. Consequently, she was on the catwalk in London that same year and was one of the first Barbadian models to be chosen for London fashion week. Most recently, she has been putting a few keys together to make instrumentals for her songs. Recording her lyrics with her own instrumentals shows people exactly who she is. This has so far proven to be beneficial as she is currently number one on the ReverbNation Pop Charts for Bridgetown BB. Now that she has knowledge of singing, songwriting, dancing, modeling, and producing: where does she go from here? The world is her playground; if she gets what she puts in - ‘Melodie’ will soon be a household name.

Influences:

Well, I'll have to say that I'm influenced by alot of music from the 90's era. Pop, hiphop, you name it. Vocally, I'm inspired by the 'real singers', like Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, and Christina Aguilera.
