About me:

The Mythbusters Fansite profile.

This is just a Mythbusters fansite, not the official Mythbusters myspace because there is no such thing. Adam and Jaime have no time to run a myspace because they are too busy busting myths. However, the Build Team have myspaces, thank you for understanding.

..
Oh my god, check out these myspace layouts!

Adam Savage

A phrase Adam loves to repeat is: “I reject your reality and substitute my own”.

Before dedicating himself to mythbusting, Adam was an animator, graphic designer, interior designer, set designer and an expert in animatronics or computerised robots. But if you were to ask him, he will say that all his life he has been a builder, and that is the role he loves the most.

At five years old, Adam was already building his own toys, the predecessors of the more elaborate ones he builds now with Jamie. His sculptures have been exhibited in at least 40 galleries in San Francisco. He says that when sculpting, he gets his inspiration from the treasures you can find in old attics. He adds that he uses a large variety of materials to work with: aluminium, styrofoam, resins, plastic, neon, hydraulics, glass, and robotics. He brings these skills to the show and uses them in his special effects.

Their quest is simple - to uncover the truth behind popular rumours, urban and internet myths and historical claims using their trademark quirky, action-packed and often unconventional methods. With the help of the Build Team, Adam and Jamie are literally having a blast as they use special effects, science and one very abused crash test dummy 'Buster', to show how many urban myths don't stand up to the test. The results are often surprising – and explosive...

Jamie Hyneman

After years of sailing boats and diving in the Carribbean, Jamie Hyneman moved to San Francisco to pursue a successful career in the special effects industry.

Born in Indiana, Jamie worked for many years in the Caribbean as a diver and boat captain. He moved to San Francisco to pursue a successful career in the special effects industry. Before this, he got a degree in Russian, became a wilderness survival expert, animal wrangler and chef.

Jamie worked for a company in San Francisco before opening his own studio, M5 Industries, where he still works with toy prototypes and robotics projects, as well as allowing it to be the set for the majority of the experiments on the show. With his beret, immaculate white shirt and thick moustache, Jamie is quite a character and takes the role of “the voice of reason” to Adam.

Married to a science teacher, Jamie assures us that every experiment seen on the show has an educational role. Adam and Jamie always apply very rigorous scientific standards, calculating, measuring velocity and power, and projecting measurements. Although sometimes it’s entertaining to see them failing to prove or disprove a myth, they will always find a way of scientifically solving a problem.

Jamie has created many prototypes, some of which can be seen on the show, although the majority end up being used for completely different purposes than those for which they were originally conceived!

Kari Byron

Without knowing it, Kari Byron has trained to be a Mythbuster since she was a kid.

By the age of five she was setting up experiments to test on her sister and using dolls as crash test dummies. Luckily, her parents always caught her just before her little sister took a ride down a laundry chute or was the subject of an 'around-the-world' attempt on the playground swings.

After graduating from San Francisco State and travelling the world, Kari began her career as an artist, working in sculpture and painting and holding successful exhibitions at some of San Francisco's leading galleries. 'Artist' was only one of many hats she wore while searching for her place in the world. Her sculpting skills and love for odd jobs soon led her into the field of model-making and toy-prototyping, which led to a job with Jamie Hyneman at M5 Industries.

It was at M5 that Kari got her first big break on Mythbusters. During the 'vacuum toilet' segment of one of the first episodes (which looked at whether a person could get sucked into an aeroplane toilet), Jamie needed a 3-D scan of someone's bottom, and Kari was in the right place at the right time. The rest is history, although we'd be remiss if we overlooked Kari's former job experience as a secret martini shopper, rose delivery driver and store mannequin to fool shoplifters! Who knew that a degree in film and sculpture would actually lead to a real-life career one day?

Now Kari works with the Mythbusters team, using science and Yankee ingenuity to solve the mysteries of today's most compelling urban legends.

Grant Imahara

Grant is an electronics and radio-control specialist who operated R2-D2

Electronics and radio-control specialist Grant Imahara is a former animatronics engineer and model maker for George Lucas' Industrial Light and Magic, where he worked on movies including The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, A.I.: Artificial Intelligence and The Matrix Reloaded.

In addition to operating R2-D2 (one of only a handful of official operators), Grant has another claim to fame: he developed a custom electronics circuit that kept the Energizer Bunny's arms and ears moving at a constant rate. In fact, he's responsible for all the electronics installation and radio programming on the current generation of bunnies, even serving as the bunny's driver and crew supervisor on numerous commercials.

While he earned a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Southern California, Grant actually picked up many of his mechanical skills from the machinists at the ILM model shop, many of whom have been there since 1986's Howard the Duck. He's also the author of the book, Kickin' Bot: An Illustrated Guide to Building Combat Robots. His own machine, Deadblow, is a BattleBots champion that continues to strike terror into the hearts of fellow competitors.

Tory Belleci

Tory Belleci worked at Industrial Light and Magic for eight years as a model builder, sculptor, and painter.

Tory first walked into Jamie Hyneman's workshop in 1994 as a fresh-faced young film student from San Francisco State University looking to start a career in movie special effects. Jamie quickly put him to work buying lunch, sweeping the shop floor and running errands. But a determined Tory quickly learned all he could and moved up the ranks.

Three years later, he landed a job with George Lucas' special-effects division, Industrial Light and Magic; one of his biggest projects there was building models for the most recent Star Wars trilogy. The Federation battleships and podracers you see in The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones are some of Tory's finest pieces of work. Tory's other special-effects work can be seen in the Matrix trilogy, Van Helsing, Peter Pan, Starship Troopers, Galaxy Quest and Bicentennial Man.

When he's not busting myths, Tory's busy dreaming up his own ideas for films and TV shows. One of his short films has already appeared in the Slamdance film festival and on the Sci-Fi Channel.

Tory was born in Monterey, California, right near the famous Pebble Beach golf course. He once shot a blistering 15 over par round of 87 there - then decided special effects was more his game.

Buster

Never afraid to face guns, fires and a variety of collisions, Buster is the Mythbuster called to face danger.

Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage use all their scientific knowledge and experience to solve the myths featured in the show, but when it comes to facing bullets, fire or dangerous collisions, they call on their good friend Buster. Buster is a crash test dummy, loaned to the duo by the National Highway and Safety Administration.

Luckily, they don't expect to receive much back once the show ends! Buster has endured everything from being shot out of a canon with five kilos of gun powder to falling eight floors in an elevator with cut cables.
