The Neighborhood Brats' story begins in San Francisco, California in 2009, when guitarist George Rager and vocalist Jenny Angelillo, who had been friends for years, joined forces to form a band called Roofie & the Nightstalkers. While Roofie & the Nightstalkers developed a local following and released a single on Rich Bitch Records, personal differences with one of the members spelled doom for the band, and in late 2010, Rager and Angelillo teamed up with Kirk Podell on drums and Jasmine Watson on bass to launch the Neighborhood Brats. After only five rehearsals (and before they'd played a live show), the Neighborhood Brats cut a five-song EP that was released in March 2011. They issued two singles in 2012, "We Own the Night" b/w "100% White Girl," and "Ocean Beach Party" b/w "Shark Beach," but by the end of that year, the rising cost of living in San Francisco led Rager and Angelillo to relocate to the Los Angeles community of Long Beach, and while the original lineup appeared on the 2013 EP Birth Rights and an LP that collected the band's early singles and EPs, for 2013's No Sun No Tan the band recruited a new rhythm section, bassist Tommy Branch and drummer Richie Cardenas. The EP Total Dementia was released in January 2014, and the group began work on their first full album of new material. By the time the LP Recovery was released in October 2014, the band had yet another new rhythm section, Don Graziano on bass and Mile Shelbourn on drums. ~ Mark Deming
