Tim Handels, born in Belgium, US citizen. Here's the story so far: music has been all around me for as long as I can remember. My earliest memory of music is the day I was given my first 7": Roger Glover's Butterfly Ball... I must have been three or four. The first album I actually bought with my own money was Adam & The Antz's Dirk Wears White Sox. From then on I was hooked, spending all my time and money looking for hard to find records, asking my dad to drive me all around town to the few lonely record shops Brussels had at the time. My main watering hole was Caroline Music in the center of Brussels. They also had an outlet in Uccle, near the Bascule, close to where I was born all these years ago. This is where I bought my first LP. These places were sacred to me and I loved getting my hands on new vinyl... I remember giving lists of 12" records to my dad when he went for business to London. Poor guy... I can imagine him all over London asking if they had x or y not having the faintest idea of what he was even asking... Fast forward to the late 80's early 90's: these were crazy times. It was the second "Summer of Love". School was finally over and good times we had. Electronic music at the time was great, it was fresh and underground - there was nothing like it. It was all about having a good time. I remember hearing "beat" on some TV commercial and remember how astonished we were... Techno on TV! Wow! This kind of music was only heard in clubs at the time. Things were soon to change: techno took over the airwaves and became mainstream. In those years I started making music too: a few school rock bands, a couple of gigs as lead guitar and singer, and then the purchase of my first synth when travelling to the US, the Ensoniq SQ-R+. I also brought back an Alesis SR16 drum machine and a Yamaha 4-track tape recorder. Basic stuff. My first demo was not much of a demo as it was honestly rather crap but it got me signed in '92 to the Brussels-based Crammed Discs (SSR, Freezone). I released a handful of 12" singles as THC and then Avalon. I also was involved in the first Freezone release, recording a track (New Frontier) and remixing Karl Biscuit's "Hièrophone" but after a while with Crammed, I lost interest and the music suffered. I was more interested in going to clubs and enjoying myself rather than recording music and being serious about it. After a while, even the partying stopped and life paced down. Priorities changed. I settled down, bought a house, got married, and Lena was born. Sounds mundane put this way, but it's been keeping me busy ever since. However, now that my angel has grown, I have the time, the maturity but more importantly, the passion to create and record music again. The studio has grown over the years and finally I can use all the great gear I have purchased over time. The results are good: I finally can be proud of my work and the feedback is extremely positive too. What will it bring? God knows. I'll be taking it a step at a time and who knows? Maybe new releases in the near future? One thing that's sure though... I'll be enjoying it for real this time around.

His Earth Water Air Fire album, from the Brussels Crammed Discs / SSR label, is rich Trance City Techno with chillingly perfect vocal lines and thorough dance beats. There's an air of nostalgia about it too; strong elements of House through the ages are sweetly re-defined in these bold sounds. The first four tracks, from 'Hydroscope' to 'Nautical Dream', are outstanding, while the rest simply continue the theme.
