  • Bio

Rare Moods. is the result of long time collaboration between Liam Farrel, aka Doctor L, ubiquitous musician and producer and Manu Boubli, head of Comet Records. Melting influences as different as Talking Heads, Sun Ra, Moodyman, Georges Clinton, Fela Kuti, DJ Shadow or Pink Floyd, Rare Moodss music is the missing link between spiritual jazz from the 70s, abstract hip-hop and Detroit techno sounds. Following Silk, a first 4 tracks EP thats been supported by the like of Gilles Peterson (Worldwide), Michael Ruetten (Soulpatrol/Compost Radio Show), Darren Knot (Ninja Tune Radio Show) and many more, they released Peace In Da Neighborhood, Rare Moods first album. Bringin back to the scene underground Soul diva Silky Spearman (Silk) or french funk singer Dom Farkas (Mystery Lane), Peace In Da Neighborhood moves from mid-eastern jazz sounds (Cape Of Good Hope) to latin floor-filler (Oil On Fire) and from modern gospel soul (A Kind Of Fool) to hypnotic dancefloor jazz (Peace In Da Neighborhood). The entire album is a trip through sounds and music, deeply inspired by the musical masters from the past but also clearly modern and inventive ! Naturally, Manu & Liam started Mind Records & Service Corp., their brand new outfit, on which they already released 4 albums ('The Real Thing', Psyco's 'There Must Be A Revolution Somewhere', Broken 'Better Luck Next Time' & Not Your Frequency 'Communication By Transfusion')! More to come soon with 2 Doctor L albums as well as a new project, Zebra, a collaboration with legendary Fela Kuti's drummer and old friend Tony Allen... DOCTOR L Born irish but living in Paris since the early 80s, Liam Farrell aka Doctor L is involved in music bizness since hes a kid! Collaborator of Loik Dury during the early years of Radio Nova, known for being one of the first French Hip-Hop producer with his band Assassins, composer for various soundtracks, multi-instrumentist, Liam also works with Screamin Jay Hawkins and Tony Allen, Rodolphe Burger and James Blood Ulmer, Bumcello or Omar Sosa between many others. He finally has 3 albums under Doctor Ls name as well as many collaborations with other artists such as Psyco On Da Bus (with Tony Allen and his band), Kactus Hunters (with Nicolas Baby from FFF)! MANU BOUBLI Born in Paris, Manu Boubli leads Comet Records since 1998. He starts building the legendary Acid Jazz parisian club Cithea in the early 90s, home of regular gigs for Tony Allen, Smadj, Magic Malik, Julien Loureau, M, Ghetto Blaster, Les Etoiles, While spinning eclectic DJ sets worldwide (Tokyo, Toronto, Moscow, Paris, Lisbon,), writing for various magazines, compiling Rare Grooves collections for various labels (Modern Afro Rhythms series on Comet or The Vibe! for BMG) and dealing worldwide highly collectible records, Manu produced the Rare Moods project in the summer 2003 with Doctor L ......BlingJam Page Editor..
