Two bands, from  two different generations, talking all things Warped. Let’s do this.

If you’re familiar with the phrase “technical metal” then you’re undoubtedly a fan of The Dillinger Escape Plan. For the past thirteen years the band haven’t stretched the boundaries of heavy music so much as they’ve splintered their headstocks over its corpse— via odd time signatures and jazz-inspired breakdowns. The band released their fourth full-length Option Paralysis earlier this year.

Since forming in 2002, Riverside, California’s Suicide Silence have pioneered the genre of Deathcore—which is a hybrid of metalcore and death metal—and transitioned from a side project to one of the metal world’s fastest-rising acts. The band’s 2009 album, No Time To Bleed, debuted at Number 32 on the Billboard charts and a deluxe edition was re-released as No Time To Bleed: Body Bag Edition earlier this summer.

So what do these two bands have in common, other than the propensity to be incredibly brutal? Well, in a Warped Tour year when you can see everyone from electro-rapper Mike Posner to old school alt-rockers Everclear, both of these bands offer a uniquely heavy alternative.

M.I.A. has spent the past few months talking smack about half the living world, even going so far as to tweet the phone number of a journalist who pissed her off. Now, in a recent interview with TimeOut London, the singer has taken a shot at Oprah.

Apparently Oprah slighted the artist at the Metropolitan Ball in New York earlier this year and M.I.A. was none too pleased about it. “Oprah seemed like she was giving me the cold shoulder,” M.I.A. said in the interview. “She was with [David Bowie's wife] Iman. Iman was always dancing with me, hugging and kissing me, but Oprah seemed really pissed off with me.”

There’s a long list of pop stars who make a foray into acting: Eminem in 8 Mile, Beyonce in that Austin Powers sequel, Britney Spears in the almost-Oscar-winning drama Crossroads. Well, now we can add Rihanna to that list. The pop star has been cast in Battleship, a big-screen adaptation of the popular board game.

Variety reported yesterday that Rihanna will join the cast of director Peter Berg’s film, which has a release date of May 25, 2012. The movie, which stars Friday Night Lights actor Taylor Kitsch and True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgard, will begin shooting soon. According to Variety , the film “takes place across the seas, over the skies and land in a battle for planet survival against a superior force.” Kitsch will play “a naval officer who leads the fight” and Skarsgard will play his brother. There is no word yet on what Rihanna’s role will entail.

Chart Position: Casino Madrid erupted onto the MySpace Metal charts this past month with four songs in the Top Ten alone. As is the case when you mix metal and hardcore for a quasi-living, they also have had multiple songs at the top of the MySpace Hardcore charts.

How It’s Moving: Last week, the band had nearly a 99% increase in popularity as songs such as “For Kings And Queens” began climbing up the charts.

They kind of sound like, you know: The Devil Wears Prada, Bring Me The Horizon and Attack Attack minus all the crouching.

Here’s some proof that Dr. Dre really has been working on a new record. The rapper has been sued for approximately $1.2 million in unpaid studio fees by Paramount Recording Studios. The lawsuit was filed yesterday in the Los Angeles Superior Court and alleges that Dr. Dre and his record label, Aftermath Entertainment, rented the studio from April 2009 until June 2010 but failed to pay for that time. Dr. Dre has yet to officially respond to the lawsuit but something tells us he’s got the cash.

Dr. Dre has been recording with Paramount for over ten years, according to Allhiphop.com, and had agreed to settle the outstanding bill earlier this month. He apparently failed to do so, hence the lawsuit.
