Bio
z’Bumba brings the spirited, accordion-driven music known as Forró (fo-HOH) from Brazil’s Northeast to the American Northwest. Originally the theme music for a rough bunch of outlaws called the cangaçeiros - basically, pirates of the Brazilian desert - forró is enjoying a worldwide surge in popularity. It's not hard to see why - often likened to Zydeco or Cumbia, Forró is a great mix of bittersweet, brazilian baroque melodies and Afro-Brazilian rhythm. It’s great for dancing, and the dance is as easy as a (saucy) two-step. -

you guys are great. Good forro'!!!
A refreshing shot of sugar cane spirits in a whiskey-drowned town…
Shooting out synaptic-swift rhythms from a ringing triangle, z’Bumba layers in swirling accordion lines like sweet guava, and holds it all down with a healthy dose of traditional percussion. São Paulo songstress Gabriella intones portuguese poetry that sounds like a smile, often culminating in a gleeful full-band chorus. One part Zydeco, one part Salsa, with a splash of Cumbia and a lime twist, Forró served up by z’Bumba is fun for all.
