In 1990 he moved to the Netherlands after an invitation to join Dutch band The Ex and continues to be a full time member of this band....the openess and versatility of the musicians in this group has brought them into contact with many musicians from different scenes and backgrounds..including Tom Cora(cello), Han Bennink(drums), Wolter Wierbos(trombone), Djibril Diabate (kora), John Butcher (sax) and Anne james Chaton (sound poet). In ‘95 he performed his first series of completely improvised concerts as a duet with Terrie Ex, and later released a video of the best performances. In 1996 he began another group with Tony Buck (Necks), Joe Williamson and Leonid Soybelman (Ne Zhdali) called Kletka Red...fusing traditional Klezmer, Greek and Russian songs with their own frantic styles of playing.... In more recent years Andy has involved himself more with the Amsterdam improvisation scene and has worked alongside electronic musicians such as Kaffe Matthews, Yannis Kyriakides, Thomas Lehn, Colin Mclean and DJ/Rupture as well as composing soundtracks for films and performing regularily with dancers such as Magpie music and Dance Company with Katie Duck . In the summer of 2000 he composed along with Anna McMichael (New Ensemble) a short soundtrack for a film called EPIC by artist Marion Coutts (Dog Faced Hermans). The following year he composed another soundtrack for her film No Evil Star. 2001 he launched a new CD label along with composer and electronic musician Yannis Kyriakides and Isabelle Vigier called Unsounds… 2002 Was the year he made his first trip with The Ex to Ethiopia and has since returned several times to perform in both the capital Addis Abeba and other towns in the surrounding country 2003 he worked with THERMAL ( John Butcher and Thomas lehn) and recorded their debut CD and further with MAGPIE Music and Dance Company and sound poet Anne james Chaton. 2004 The Ex celebrated their 25th anniversary with a giant two day party at Paradiso and a week long convoy tour through France with dozens of musicians . He also began to work with experimental filmaker Jem Cohen and has since provided music for several of his short films. 2005 saw collaborations with dancer and choreographer Nora Heilmann with a piece called “Skunk” and with the The Ex and D’Electrique (a dutch theatre group established 25 years ago ) doing a performance of Anthony Burgess s “A Clockwork Orange “ 2006 The year the Ex becomes a 4 piece again after 20 years ….terrie and andy both use baritone guitars to replace the bass….It is also the year the begin to work with legendary ethiopian saxaphonist Getatchew Mekuria form Addis Abeba Andy also began performing with brooklyn based DJ and released two unofficial cds of their live improvisations He also performed ..with musicians Steve Heather, Yannis Kyriakides and Joe Williamson …. providing a live improvised soundtrack to a film he manipulated of the 1929 Rene Clair film called The Crazy Ray He also began to work with Banafsheh Khoshnoudi a Texan Iranian filmaker providing a soundtrack for her film Transit …and continues to work with her. 2006 saw the online only release of “Rembetika” ..a collection of songs performed by Moor and Kyriakides using tradition greek rembetika songs as source material … September 2006 Andy composed music for a Toneel Theatre Group Amsterdam (pronounced ‘toenail’) who performed a version of Wim wenders “Wings of Desire” in Amsterdam and Boston 2007 saw The Ex release their first cd with Getatchew Mekuria and toured extensively throughout Europe with him. He also released his first solo guitar CD Marker on unsounds … 2008 began in Ethiopia performing a duo with Terrie Ex and later in the spring touring in Europe with a new quartet called Lean Left featuring Ken Vandermark, Paal Nilssen Love and Terrie Ex. The Ex and Getatchew Mekuria made their debut appearance in the USA their final two concerts in the Millenium Park in Chicago and to thousands of New Yorkers and Ethiopians in the Lincoln Centre. In July he went to Berlin to record with Asi Foecker a singer songer writer and Tony Buck and Clayton Thomas … The year will end with his first trip to Japan to perform with Anne James Chaton ..a sound poet from France who he has been performing with the last three years mostly in France .
