If you could try to imagine the French version of the psychedelic blues/ hard rock band GRAVEYARD, SOUL MANIFEST would be the fitting result and their Hard Rock psychedelia that sometimes reminds the frenetic alter-ego of Brant Bjork (note also that the cover artwork is made by Johan Jaccob, known for his cover/poster work with Brant Bjork, GLOWSUN and KARMA TO BURN) or the male edition of SUBROSA, but that’s another story. This act, formed 2 years ago, wants to live the dream via music and travel us back in time, in the glorious decade of the 70s, having as main characteristic the organ melodies and the classic Hard Rock riffage. If you consider yourself lover of bands like WITCH, GRAVEYARD and BLACK SABBATH of course, you have to make a stop here, at the debut “White Season” and enjoy SOUL MANIFEST’s melodies, having in mind though that France doesn’t have any endless deserts with hallucinogen oasis.
Through the 38 minutes of “White Season”, you are gonna find pure 70s hard rock riffage, some nice ‘n’ loose bluesy tunes and an exquisite, sensitive voice behind the mic, sprinkled by stardust and dreams you could find 4 decades ago. From the opening “Dead Man” (yeap, I did the same association with the band, too) and its organ-ic nature, till the two ambrosial parts of the self-titled track, split in two different songs, you’ll be able to travel between clouds without paying a ticket. SOUL MANIFEST’s feeling is so strong and pure that can allure you, especially if you belong to the party of people that called themselves lotus-eaters, making even the inapposite English accent of the singer sounded magical.
However, my favorite track from the album still remains the epic “The Light/ Who's The Rock'n'Rolla ??” because of its duration that reaches the 9 minutes, its additional female vocals in the refrain/bridge and that catchy guitar riff in the background that doesn’t leave you ways to escape. If it’s still raining outside and the cold is rigid and thick, there is a bunch of dreamers out there, from the land of fragrant and aesthesia that will travel you in your personal and secret promise-land. I can assure you that.
PS: Can you see behind the blonde's purple eyelids in the album's cover? I dare you!

Soul Manifest is a trio of guys named Soul, Stodguy, and OscArt from France. They have created a fantastic piece of psychedelic and progressive rock. The album seems to go by quickly totaling around 40 minutes. The quality of the tunes is outstanding. Soul Manifest is definitely a “Jam” band, but does not let the jammin’ get out of control and redundant. SM keep your attention ever present right to the end of the ten minute finale “The Light”. Oh and how could I forget the artwork?! This is truly fitting for the music within this album. I think all will appreciate it.
Again, this album seems to go by so very quickly. There are seven tracks. White Season begins with Dead Man followed up by White Season Part 1. White Season Part 1 has a great drum intro that flows into a heavy riff. One thing that caught me off guard was the vocals. They are not what I was expecting when I first tuned in, but they add so much depth to SM! My personal favorite track is Devil’s Meeting. Devil’s Meetings has a very ominous introduction with bell’s tolling and a killer keyboard solo, very fitting. This leads right into a very bluesy riff that your feet can’t help but tap. Next you will find White Season Part 2, which is very beautiful and a completely opposite sound of Part 1. The grand finale brings The Light, very spacey psychedelic beginning with a submersing smooth guitar lick. Add great female vocals and ten minute run time, SM brings an excellent outro to White Season.
With that all said, I cannot sum it up better than Soul. Soul states this, “All the pressure felt to the everyday life is gathered here and transformed into vital energy, as the hope ensuing from the chaos… You’re curious?! Join us…” I think I will, and I’ll definitely keep up to date with what Soul Manifest does in the future. Coming to the USA anytime soon SM?

With Graveyard riding the wave of popularity at the moment you might be looking for other retro sounding bands to sink your teeth into. In which case you can not miss out on Soul Manifest's 'White Season' album. This French band certainly have all their classic 70's psychedelic hard rock chops down to a fine art and there is plenty to get excited about with this release. The main difference between Soul Manifest and bands like Graveyard is this band is more progressive and more jammy but without carried away with long-winded instrumental self-indulgences. This band sounds like Black Sabbath, Witch, Graveyard and Karma To Burn all rolled into a very psychedelic jam-band package. As with nearly all of these bands re-living the 70's approach to hard-rock, there is nothing here that could be considered original but it really means nothing if you got great tunes and Soul Manifest are indeed great composers.
What you get here is a exquisite blend of bluesy, classic hard and heavy guitars, stunning vintage organ sounds and a mesmerizing voice that is completely within the wailing 70's frontman style. In the between the more traditional 70's rock singing, there is also some sensitive, emotionally draining moments that is a combination that was huge and common-place in the 70's and to a lesser degree in the 80's but becoming increasingly rare these days which is a pity. It is not often you hear new bands with high-quality vocals anymore but at least you have bands like this one to carry on the tradition. Where did all the good singers go anyway?
From the opening duo of 'Dead Man' and 'White Season Pt.1' you get the immediate vibe that this is one classy act. There is dynamic playing coming at you from all directions and the excellent vocals are just the icing on the cake. There is bluesy guitar and organic organ to fill out the sound and while this will have you being reminded of many a classic 70's hard rock band, the tunes are so infectious that it will have you going back for repeated spins immediately.
Through the next few songs, there is not a second wasted. Each song being just as good as the next with some interesting musical variations along the way. 'White Season Part 2' is one of the tracks where they bring something a little different to the table of rock, this track is simply beautiful in the way it is played and arranged. The grand finale titled 'The Light' is a golden moment on the disc, a psychedelic masterpiece that brings in synthesizer and female vocals to create a stunning nine minute epic. Every track is a winner, 'Devil's Meeting' has infectious grooves that are irresistible but really the entire album is like that. They certainly don't re-invent anything and it might sound a tad recycled but bands with this much finesse and class are a rare breed. This is an energetic, catchy album that is progressive without being pompous and it also rocks hard so its a no brainer, check it out....9/10

I’ll admit I’ve been holding off on reviewing this album for a few months now. Despite listening to it countless amounts of time. I’m not really sure how to describe it. (See my Wo-Fat review). I’m not sure why as it’s great. It’s a bit of classic, prog, psychedelic and hard rock all rolled into one huge ball of musical energy.
For some reason I have a hard time describing each song on this album. I’m at a loss for words. Perhaps it’s because of how unique it is, it doesn’t really follow a “standard” mold as far as how an album “should” sound. There’s plenty of great lead guitar playing, there’s some down tuned guitar and bass. There’s some acoustics. The vocals are a bit higher pitched, close to what you would hear from Rival Sons, Dirty Sweet or even Robert Plant. Overall it’s a great combo and deserves your undivided attention. The Cover is bad ass too.
Soul Manifest show throughout that they have quite a range. They’re not afraid to mix it up. Again, breaking the mold. Not one track is like the last. It makes for an interesting album start to finish. It’s an album that is best described by listening yourself. Treat your ears to a song on their Facebook page and pick up your own copy on CD or vinyl.
